installing and configuring Flexheader3

Flexheader3 Module Installation is very easy, because it uses the Joomla! Extension Installer.

  • Download the module installation file from this site to a local directory
  • Login as an administrator into your Joomla! Backend
  • in the topmenu navigate to Extensions -> Install/Uninstall
  • In the extension manager use "Upload Package File" -> "Browse" and then the "Upload File & Install" button
  • Got to the module manager and click on "Flexheader3"
  • enable the module
  • choose a module position
  • save the module options
  • a help window will appear on the frontpage that shows you the filename for use with flexheader3
  • name your picture as shown in the help window

Hi,

Thank you so much, I have it working, its great. Though I was thinking of positioning it in the header, but in the drop down menu in Joomla admistration, there is no position as header. Can it be posible to position it in the header where the logo is or far right?
Thanks again
Lofton

You can check your module positions with yourdomain.tld/index.php?tp=1, www.andrehotzler.de/?tp=1 for example

If you do not have a position that fits your needs, a module position for flexheader can be added to your template.

There is a video in german language there:

andrehotzler.de/.../46-hinzufuegen-einer-modulposition-fuer-flexheader-zu-einem-joomla-template.html

I can also do this for a small fee.

Very nice module! One question: how to set the z-position of the module? My further header was a jpeg with z -1. Flexheader should have the same position.

You should do this in your template css file. You can add a css class to the flexheader3 object in the advanced module parameters.

Just name your pictures as shown in the help window on your frontpage. itemid1.jpg for example is the name of the picture for menu entry with the joomla internal itemid=1

I wanted to follow up on this because I don't quite understand how to link the images to menu entries. For example my first menu item shows me this:
Name of your header-image for this site: itemid58-id35
Name of your header-image for the menu entry: itemid58
Name of your header-image for the parent menu item (if applicable): parent0
Name of your header-image for the current category; category35
Name of your header-image for the current section: no-section
Name of your header-image for the current component: com_content

I changed the image name to itemid58.jpg, however it does not change from the default image.

Thank you.
AJ

I figured it out. Didn't realize you have to leave the default image box blank, and rename the default image to header-default.jpg.

Thanks for a great module!

You do not have to leave anything blank!

Your site is full of XHTML und CSS errors and didnt finish loading after 2 minutes.

Use the w3c validator to fix the xhtml und css errors first.

Hello Andre,

I tried to remove the errors from my site.
Just 25 are remaining (I think).....many of them are related to the flash banner I installed with Flexheader, but I have no idea how ro remove them.
If you have any clue about this, please let me know.

Thank you very much.

PS: My flash header is still not clickable in IE.

Sweet solution - one problem. I use an automatic menu generator which changes the item IDs.... Meaning, my images need to be renamed with every major menu update.

Itemids are joomla internal variables. A module cannot rename itemids

Hello,

I wonder if you or anyone else reading this page has used FlexHeader3 with the Artisteer design program (for Joomla)? I am trying to implement FlexHeader 3 on a Artisteer Joomla site, and can get the Module to show in many places, but not in the header image? Any ideas?

# Andre Hotzler 2010-05-06 21:25
You need to program a module position, that fits your needs, into the template.

I have documented this in german, but in english at the moment.

If you have Artisteer and no css/html knowledge, it may be better you let a professional template programmer let this do it for you.

What filename should I give for search page result, like:
www.domainname.com/index.php/component/search/?searchword=someword&ordering=&searchphrase=all

When I use com_search as you suggested it will work, but I don't have headers per category anymore.

What should I do if I want a header in the result page and also have a different header per category?

com_search is related to the search component. If you do not have header images in other components, you should check of module caching of flexheader 3 is enabled -> should be disabled.

I had a wrong setup from the beginning ;)
I was using a module mod_flexheader3 for every category each with a self chosen (default) image name.

Now I see and understand what your module does, especially with the help function turned on.

Thanks a lot for this very nice and free module, it works perfectly!

Great module but have small problem, have created a module position for flexheader to my template (siteground j15-34). Problem is that image is left aligned when viewed and not centered. Tried assigning a css command as you instructed but am not that good in css and programming. Can you send me instructions on how to write css to align center the module or image in module and how to write the command in the advanced parameters of the module?

I want to use flexheader as a bagground picture - I choose the moduleposisition 'left' and it works great, but when i put an artikel over, with tekst or picture it doesnt display/start left, but at bit in - can i fiks that?

Hmmm could you chek: kreativlab.org/flex

The small picture should align left, but start at bit in, over the background picture. Have tried to align leftin the editor, and change the modulposition for the baggrundpicture, but i didnt help.

# Andre Hotzler 2010-06-28 08:46
Thats because you divs are positioned mad.

inner_wrapper has 20px left padding and so the flexheader module cannot align left at 0px.

You can make this easier.

Just enable the load css option and place a file:

header-default.css there

(in your case you have to reset the parameter default file name to header-default)

In this file write:
#inner_wrapper {
background-image: path to image;
}
as flexheader picture use a small image and change the dimensions to 0px 0px.

@ll: Before asking things: Make sure, you do not use JCE Editor and its internal link function. Links to articles without a menu entry are bad style, resulting in complex problems.

Itemids are NOT optional, because joomla creates its SEO urls from the alias, associated with the itemdid of the menu entry.

Without itemid: Joomla doesnt know, where you are on the website.

Also modules belongs to itemids.

i personally do not know, why this harmful option is included in JCE. In my opinion: Use of JCE is a sign of now enough knowledge.
